Who We Are
Our School at a Glance
Beginning with the 2018–2019 school year, Gary Digital Academy (GDA), a program of Gary Community Schools Corporation, serves students in grades K–9. As a public school program GDA is available tuition-free* to any Indiana state residents able to attend in-person sessions at the school site at least twice per week.
GDA offers a comprehensive blended learning program, including online work and in-person instruction using a rigorous curriculum, an innovative learning management system, and a full suite of academic and support services.Certified Teachers, Superior Teaching Tools
Certified Teachers, Superior Teaching Tools
All GDA students will interact with one or more Indiana-licensed teachers (depending on grade level) in an online learning environment and receive in-person instruction twice weekly at our learning center. Students communicate regularly with their teachers through email, telephone, online synchronized sessions, direct instruction, and regular outings. Teachers will work with students and Learning Coaches (a parent or other responsible adult) in core courses to oversee and assist the students as they work through the year's curriculum.
Each family will receive instructional materials, including textbooks, DVDs, and other hands-on educational materials. These materials, which vary by course and grade, will complement the interactive online elements of the student’s courses.
Dedicated Student Support
In grades K–5, the Learning Coach (a parent or other responsible adult) works closely with the teacher to help facilitate the student's progress and to modify the student’s pace and schedule as needed. At the middle school and high school level, the Learning Coach will be less involved as students take more responsibility for their own learning and work more often at a collective pace with their classmates in teacher-led sessions.
Personalized Learning, Public School Accountability
GDA allows students to learn in the ways that are right for them. The key is a personalized approach that focuses on the student’s unique learning strengths, needs, goals, and interests. In addition to providing personalized learning, GDA will provide the structure, administrative support, oversight, accountability, and state testing required of all Indiana public schools.
*Families do not pay tuition for a student to attend an online public school. Common household items and office supplies like printer ink and paper are not provided. Our enrollment consultants can help address your technological and computer questions and needs.
